Would you prefer to work in a small company with lots of opportunity for promotion but not much security, or a larger company with lots of job security but not much chance of promotion?
Thursday at 12:37 am
I’m not sure if I commented about this in the past , or not. I think a lot of the lesson dialogues on this site try to0 hard to be funny, such as this one. You guys don’t have to try that hard to be amusing.
Thursday at 10:29 am
Personally i like this lesson pretty much, give us more guys.
Monday at 10:55 am
In regards to ChineseClass101.com’s question, there is probably no such thing as job security in today’s economy
except maybe a unionized government job but I think that I would prefer job security over promotion. This of course would depend on the exact job and the salary
For me, I find that it makes little difference in working for a big company or a small company. I’ve worked in both. The only difference I think is name prestige and name recognition.
In regards to the lesson itself, I thought that it was a good lesson.

I disagree with @student. Attempts a humor make the learning experience more enjoyable and assists with the learning. Its somewhat akin to singing to learn a concept. It stays with you more effectively.

This lesson uses the term 周 “zhōu” for “week”. In other lessons we’ve been exposed to another term for “week”, “星期” “xīngqī”. When would I use one over the other? I know that “week end” is 周末 “zhōumò”.
Monday at 11:59 pm
I would like to make a suggestion/comment. The audio grammar discussion had some real gold nuggets pertaining to the use of 起来。 Echo gave a number of very useful sentences covering all the senses. The problem is that those sentences were not listed in the PDF. I spent several minutes transcribing the pinyin and would ask if they could be posted here in Chinese.
I make flash cards of all the vocabulary words and often make flash cards of useful phrases. Theses phrases which Echo taught would definitely be flash card material for me! (Well, except maybe the one about the soft dog!
)
Great lesson!!!

@蓝大卫,
personally i think 周zhōu and 星期xīngqī are the same, like 周一(zhōuyī),星期一(xīngqīyī),周五(zhōuwǔ),星期五(xīngqīwǔ)etc. but for weekend we just use 周末(zhōumò),and we use 星期(xīngqī),we have to say星期六(xīngqīliù)和(hé)星期天(xīngqītiān).
however, there is some difference between 周(zhōu)and 星期(xīngqī):
when we say “one week”, we should use 一周(yīzhōu), or 一(yī)个(gè)星期(xīngqī). we have to put the measure word 个(gè)before 星期(xīngqī) here.

sorry guys, actually this is not my picture its echo’s…..
what’s the problem?
Tuesday at 3:47 pm
@zhouli.
Thank you for getting those phrases posted. Could I ask a favor? It would be helpful if the pinyin and the Chinese text were separate. It makes it easier for me to read and cut-and-paste when I make flash cards.
Again, THANK YOU!

photo on the staff page.

hi guys i think thelast word has an “儿”, namely after 公平 ?
and i have a question the second sentence in the pdf is: 他回来我太高兴了. isnt there a “让” missing?
thanks in advance you guys are my life saviors:)
Monday at 12:44 pm
@darshan,
I had a listen of the dialog. I don’t think there is a 儿 sound after the word 公平,and there shouldn’t be.
For your second question, in this sentence you can say 他回来让我太高兴了。 But without 让 probably sounds better.
And just letting you know that reading your comments really lights up my day.
Best,
Jane
Saturday at 4:44 pm

Tuesday at 10:08 am
hi cc101 team,
one of the sentences at 9:51 min misses translation in the podcast, its “the dumplings mum made taste really delicious”
your lessons are awesome:)
Thursday at 4:27 pm
@phoenix_darshan,
Thanks! Yeah, actually sometimes we skip some translation for the sample sentences on purpose.
