2. Respect your elders!

Honor your ancestors during the Qing Ming Festival which is celebrated on the 104th day after the winter solstice in China, Taiwan, Vietnam and in Chinese communities all over the world. This year, Qing Ming fell on April 5th. This day is all about respecting and honoring the deceased by visiting their grave site, cleaning it off and leaving offerings such as food and flowers. A popular tradition of the Qing Ming Festival is the burning of Joss Paper gifts for the departed, the thought being that the smoke will bring these gifts up to the heavens to your ancestors. Traditional joss paper items include money, clothing and flowers but more modern joss paper items are becoming popular such as papier mache houses and credit cards. The ubiquitous motor bike is a common offering to ancestors. Older generations are beginning to worry that the younger generations will stop visiting their ancestors and celebrating Qing Ming.
