Learn Chinese with ChineseClass101.com! Today, I was very stressed out! It seemed as if nothing was going my way! First thing this morning, my alarm clock didn’t go off and I missed my bus to get to my office! I was woken up by my boss screaming at me over the phone in Chinese, “Get to the office now!!!” After an exhausting day at work with an angry Chinese boss, I still had classes at the university. In all my rushing around this morning, I forgot to grab my homework. Of course, they couldn’t let me bring it tomorrow. Depressed and stressed, I left the university and settled into a dark booth in the back of my favorite Chinese coffee shop. Suddenly this woman approached me, drew a long drag off her cigarette, exhaled, and asked me calmly in Chinese, “What’s wrong dear?” I told her about my day and she told me how she stays relaxed and happy after struggling for years with what I was going through right then! I wish you could have met her! But, lucky for you, you can at least get some words of advice from her in Chinese!

Learn Chinese with ChineseClass101.com! Everyone warned me! In fact, everyone warned me repeatedly! They warned me about pickpockets and losing my cell phone when I went out in China. But I know everything, at least much more than they do! I just wanted some ice cream from the local McDonald’s in China…is that too much to ask? I was supposed to meet my friend there. When I arrived, I reached for my phone and it was gone!! I panicked (of course), grasping awkwardly at anything and everything on my body that could possibly hold a phone…nothing. Luckily, my friend showed up moments later and was able to tell me how to go about getting a new phone in China! Do you know what to do if your cell phone is stolen or lost while you are in China?

Learn Chinese with ChineseClass101.com! Today in my psychology class at the Chinese university, we talked about dreams and their meaning. We each took turns talking about the strangest dreams we have had and taking guesses at what we think they might mean. I heard some very weird things today! There was a young Chinese woman who told us about a recurring dream she has had since she was a child in China. An older man told us about a dream he had just last night in which “our beloved Chinese psychology teacher passed him with all A’s!” I think he was trying to be funny even though our Chinese professor’s stoic face never changed. Finally, there was a very quiet woman who sits at the back of the room - very smart - who told us about an incredible dream she had about walking past a lake in China. Unfortunately, our unyielding Chinese professor isn’t going to tell us what she believes these dreams reveal about our worlds or us until tomorrow. But I wrote the really good one down for you! Check it out and see what you think!

Learn Chinese with ChineseClass101.com! Today is my birthday, and I should be happy…and I am I guess. This year I moved away to college in Beijing though and couldn’t be home for my birthday. It’s funny, as I was growing up in China with my parents, I thought they were too strict and didn’t appreciate my needs and wants. I thought for sure (especially since they were so old) they had forgotten what it was like to be a young Chinese child. However, now that I am an adult and on the other side of China away from my parents, I miss them terribly! I miss the smell of my mother’s Chinese cooking and the feel of her small hands on my face when I am angry, sick, or crying. I miss my father’s tough exterior that warmed at the sight of his baby girl running through the Chinese streets to be swept up into his arms every day after school for “MY hug!” I know what I am wishing for when I blow out my candles this year…
