Learn Chinese with ChineseClass101.com! You are in China studying the Chinese culture, and of course, the Chinese language. You have found a quaint Chinese coffee shop around the corner from where you are staying and you go there every morning. This seems to be the place to be in the morning. You have met many friendly Chinese people here that do not mind if you are not a native Chinese speaker. On one particular morning, you recognize one of the patrons - it is one of the Chinese teachers from your school. You approach him and introduce yourself in Chinese, “Excuse me, but I am one of the students at the Chinese Academy and would like to know if you could help me with some of my work.” He is happy to oblige and replies in Chinese, “Sure, I can help, but just so you know, I am a student teacher, not a professor.” You begin to exchange personal information and speak both in Chinese and in English, which passes the time quickly. Before you know it, it’s time for class to begin. Both of you head to the Chinese Academy ready for the beginning of class.

Learn Chinese with ChineseClass101.com! The Chinese New Year is an exciting time of year and quite meaningful for everyone! Everyone rushing around, visiting family they haven’t seen all year, women cooking, everything clean and new. But for each person in China, the Chinese New Year holds special memories. In my earliest memories of the Chinese New Year, I remember the smell of crisp new clothes, and how my hair never looked quite right for pictures the next day because they always cut it too short in my opinion! I remember adults rushing all over my Chinese neighborhood, almost tripping over the children, as we tried our best to stay out of their way lest they try to put us to work, interrupting our boastful stories of how we tempted fate - without witness of course - over the passing year! As I grow older and the meaning of the Chinese New Year changes, I wonder if these memories are mine alone, figments of my huge imagination as a child in China…or do others feel the same?
