It’s funny, as I was growing up in China with my parents, I thought they were too strict and didn’t appreciate my needs and wants. I thought for sure (especially since they were so old) they had forgotten what it was like to be a young Chinese child. However, now that I am an adult and on the other side of China away from my parents, I miss them terribly! I miss the smell of my mother’s Chinese cooking and the feel of her small hands on my face when I am angry, sick, or crying. I miss my father’s tough exterior that warmed at the sight of his baby girl running through the Chinese streets to be swept up into his arms every day after school for “MY hug!” I know what I am wishing for when I blow out my candles this year…
