Hi, guys! Welcome back. I’m Kate. Today, we are going to learn how to describe our mood in Chinese.
All right, the first one, “happy, ”

开 心 (Kāi xīn) or 高 兴 (gāo xìng), the same, they are the same.
开 心 (Kāi xīn) or 高 兴 (gāo xìng) means “happy,” happy.

(wǒ jīn tiān hěn kāi xīn)

“I’m very happy today.”

我 (Wǒ), 我 (wǒ) means “I,” I.
今 天 (Jīn tiān), 今 天 (jīn tiān) means “today,” today.
很 开 心 (Hěn kāi xīn), 很 开 心 (hěn kāi xīn) means “very happy,” very happy.

So how to say “unhappy,” unhappy?

不 开 心 (Bù kāi xīn) or 不 高 兴 (bù gāo xìng).
So in English, we add UN- very happy to express not happy, right? Not happy, unhappy. Unhappy means not happy.
So in Chinese, it’s the same. We add 不 (bù) before 高 兴 (gāo xìng) or 开 心 (kāi xīn) to express 不 开 心 (bù kāi xīn) / 不 高 兴 (bù gāo xìng).
不 开 心 (Bù kāi xīn) / 不 高 兴 (bù gāo xìng) means “unhappy.”
Lily 昨 天 不 开 心
(Lily zuó tiān bù kāi xīn)
Lily 昨 天 不 高 兴
(Lily zuó tiān bù gāo xìng)
“Lily was unhappy yesterday.”
Lily was unhappy yesterday.
昨 天 (Zuó tiān), 昨 天 (zuó tiān) means “yesterday,” yesterday.
不 开 心 (Bù kāi xīn), 不 开 心 (bù kāi xīn) or 不 高 兴 (bù gāo xìng), we just learned it right? “Unhappy,” unhappy.

非 常 伤 心 (Fēi cháng shāng xīn), 非 常 伤 心 (fēi cháng shāng xīn) “very sad,” very sad.
因 为 (Yīn wèi), 因 为 (yīn wèi). 因 为 (Yīn wèi) means “because,” because.
通 过 考 试 (Tōng guò kǎo shì), 通 过 考 试 (tōng guò kǎo shì) means “pass the test,” pass the test. Very good!
