Video S2 #10 - Video Vocab 10: Oh, What a Tangled Web We Weave, When We Teach Chinese Insect Vocabulary!
Learn Chinese with ChineseClass101.com! You learned a lot the last time you agreed to watch your niece…and this time, the joke's on her. Yes, last time, she thought she was so smart because she knew the Chinese names for so many insects in your garden. But she is only five years old, and you are pretty sure that you have her this time! You have a bug day planned – of gardening again. She loves it, and it is an excellent chance for you to show off your new Chinese insect vocabulary that you have been practicing. As you follow her out into the flower garden, she looks back at you with those big patronizingly sweet eyes and says in Chinese, "Look, what is this bug called?" Oh, she's fast: she thinks you don't know this answer. You kneel down next to her, sneer on your face, and reply sweetly in Chinese, "Honey, that is a spider, and it looks like it's protecting itself from you." Astonished, she whips her head around to face you and replies with a simple, "Oh." You point to another bug nearby and explain in Chinese, "And look here, the cicadas are climbing up the tree." She stares at you in disbelief and replies in Chinese, "I don't want to look at bugs any more, let's go work in the garden!" Looks like you beat her at her own game AND get some help with that unruly garden too! Nice job! Learning Chinese with ChineseClass101 is the most fun and effective way to learn Chinese! This Chinese Video Vocabulary lesson is part two of our Insect vocabulary, and it will teach you how to talk about insects in Chinese. Intermediate Lesson #5 - Divorce in China
Learn Chinese with ChineseClss101.com. You are in China for your best-friend's wedding and what do you know, some of your other friends, the so-called best men, are trying to dissuade the groom not to get married to his Chinese childhood sweetheart. They have every reason in the book, including the rising Chinese divorce rate. One even goes so far to mention the groom's last girlfriend fifteen years ago. He says in Chinese, "Remember that girl that you just thought you would die without and then you dumped us for her? She ran off with another guy and left you to wallow in your misery." The groom looks at his friend and declares in Chinese, "That was in sixth grade!" You can't help but laugh at that and wish the groom best of luck. As you walk out of the dressing room to help usher people in the church, you hear another best man saying in Chinese, "Before marriage, people are so free to explore. Now you'll be dull and never hang out with us." Maybe you shouldn't leave them alone with the groom... Learning Chinese with ChineseClass101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn Chinese. In this Chinese Intermediate lesson, we will teach you how to indicate the distant past when speaking Chinese. We will also clue you in to the Chinese divorce rate and why some believe it to be rising. Even with the rising Chinese divorce rate, it is still less than many countries, so learn your vows in Chinese and then come back to ChineseClass101.com for more fantastic lessons. Elementary Lesson S2 #5 - Love at First Sight
Learn Chinese with ChineseClass101.com! Vacationing in China with your spouse, you are staying in a local Chinese hotel just down the block from a Chinese friend. So while your spouse goes shopping, which you have no interest in, you meet up with your friend at a local coffee shop. Your friend lives at home with his parents while he attends the local Chinese University. He comes into the coffee shop, clearly upset, and sits down with a sigh. You ask him in Chinese, "Is everything okay? What is wrong?" He replies in Chinese, "My parents...they got me my own apartment." You stare at him in disbelief and ask in Chinese, "So?" You have always heard your friend say he would love to live alone. He explains in Chinese, "It's not the moving out that makes me mad. As soon as I move out, they want me to marry a girl that I have never met. I know the Chinese culture says that my parents can pick my spouse, but I won't have it that way. As soon as I finish my degree, I'm leaving." When trying to comfort him and explaining that his parents won't disappoint him doesn't work, you opt for a new approach, offering in Chinese, "I'm sure as soon as you see her it will be love at first sight." He sighs and replies in Chinese, "I really hope you're right..."   Learning Chinese with ChineseClass101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn Chinese.
