Learn Chinese with ChineseClass101.com! You are in China staying with a friend on vacation. You know that him and his girlfriend have been arguing and have been known to argue openly. Earlier, while you were in your room, you heard the front door bang open and a girl’s voice begin to get louder. You know that they are at it again, but cannot hide in your room all day. You walk out to the kitchen with your head low. You reply in Chinese, “Good morning.” Both of them look at you oddly and go on with their argument without answering. Your friend’s girlfriend shouts, “Even when I gave you the chance, all you wanted to do was lie to me!” Your friend replies calmly to his girlfriend,”I didn’t lie to you. Even my friend can see that you are overreacting.” Stifling a laugh, you know that he should not have said that and you can foresee what is going to happen. You sit down at the table waiting for the explosion. She screams at your friend in Chinese, “You are just trying to cover up that you’re lying to me! Even your precious friend can see that!!!” She walks to the front door and slams it behind her. You look hesitantly at your friend. He replies to you in Chinese, “She’ll be back, even you can see that…right?” What a start to the morning!
