This is a superb list. If there’s anything to add to it, it might be some words that encapsulate the seriousness of King’s work: emancipation, but also reconciliation; conscience; Gandhi… Maybe next year?

One query: how does one say “Jr.” in Chinese? He was Martin Luther King Junior only because there was “Daddy” King, Rev. Martin Luther King, Sr., a major league pastor, a heavy hitter in the Republican Party as it existed in those distant days, and always important in the background. One of his very few public appearances was the stem-winder speech he gave closing the 1968 Democratic Convention — he was a Democrat by then! — in Chicago. Sadly it was after midnight because of the riots, and very few people saw it. Anyway, he’s the reason we respectfully still keep the “Jr.” prominent in his son’s name. He was the real thing.
