I am going to our sister city Shijiazhuang October 20th. I will be a guest of the Mayor and the Foreign Affairs Office. Should I use a Chinese name in this situation? My name is Tim Woods which is not likely to translate very well. I can't imagine a Chinese surname like Woods, Forrest or Trees. So any suggestions you might have for a Chinese name and whether or not it is appropriate to do that in an official capacity will be greatly appreciated.

I just finished listening to lesson 1 for Absolute Beginners and it was great.
Thank you,
Tim

Uhmmm... I’m pretty sure 林 (lín) both means “forest,” and is a pretty-well-accepted surname.

Not sure what to do with “Tim,” though.
