Postby yularry3214 » November 26th, 2014 4:24 am

Just wondering how to say cents in chinese.

like for example 0.86 cents or price is 2.93 .

also, how to say a rough figure. like for for example cost is $300 something dollars.

In Chinese, you have a word for ones (块 kuài), a word for tenths (毛 máo), and a word for hundredths (分 fēn). So, $4.56 is 四块五毛六分 (sì kuài wǔ máo liù fēn).

But you could probably also say, “五十六分”.

Arguably though, 块 is colloquial, kinda like “bucks.” More properly, you’d say 元 (yuán) for Renminbi, or 美元 (měiyuán) for US dollars. 欧元 for euros...

As for approximate figures, you could say 300 左右 (zuǒ yòu), which is essentially “more or less” (literally “left right”).

Oh, and to make things “interesting,” 毛 is also the “Chairman Mao” character, and can also mean “body hair”!
