Typing Chinese

Postby gillesvdp » May 28th, 2009 1:13 pm

你好

I have a question regarding the typing of 儿.

I use the Simplified Chinese “microsoft pinyin IME" under microsoft windows vista".
Whenever I type the pinyins identically to what's indicated in the pdf lesson notes, this character is always left out.

Any reason?
What can I do to type this character?

谢谢!

I can get 儿 to show up if I type 'er.' Your mileage may vary, though. :?

I know how to type Simplified Chinese using Microsoft Pinyin IME,
but I'm at a loss when it comes to typing Traditional Chinese.

Are there any tutorials on that to help out?

It would be ideal to type pinyin to get Traditional Chinese
at least for me. I have relatives in Taiwan.

谢谢

Erm...can't you type traditional characters by the same way? When you add languages, you have the option of adding simplified or traditional chinese. Simply add traditional chinese to the list of languages, and you should be able to type traditional chinese?

@shanshanchua
Traditional characters to the best of my knowledge would use a different phonetic system, such as bopomofo in Taiwan. The Microsoft package seems to limit pinyin
entry to simplified Chinese. I'd like to show my Taiwanese wife how to type, but unfortunately my knowledge is limited to pinyin entry.

I stand to be correct on traditional input methods. I found a web site that
explains how to type traditional Chinese with a variety of input methods,
including, Han Yu Pinyin. :D
http://www.pinyinjoe.com/index.html

It covers a variety of topics, including typing Chinese and pinyin.
enjoy!

Now I can type using Simplified and my wife can use Traditional!
