Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Chinese Season 1, Lesson 16 - Asking Directions. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask for and understand basic directions in Chinese.

Eric: Here's the formal way to ask 'Where is the station?' in Chinese.
Cho: [Normal] 车站在哪里?(chēzhàn zài nǎlǐ ?)
Eric: First is a noun meaning 'station'
Cho: [Normal] 车站 [Slow] 车站 (chēzhàn)
Eric: Next is the preposition meaning 'in'
Cho: [Normal] 在 [Slow] 在(zài)
Eric: Last is the pronoun meaning 'where'
Cho: [Normal] 哪里 [Slow] 哪里(nǎlǐ)
Eric: Listen again to the formal question meaning 'Where is the station?'

Cultural Insight
Eric: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Cho: Tiananmen Square is one of the most recognizable landmarks in all of China. It sits at the center of Beijing, directly across from the Forbidden City. Tiananmen Square is the largest city square in the world and measures 440,000 square meters. Close to the center of the square is Mao Zedong's mausoleum, with The Monument to the People's Heroes located in front. If you have a plan to visit Beijing, this should be on your list of places to visit.
