Lesson Transcript

Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question, "What kind of movies do you like?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to talk about movies and ask other people about their favorite kinds of movies.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
你喜欢什么类型的电影? (Nǐ xǐhuan shénme lèixíng de diànyǐng?)
我喜欢恐怖片。 (Wǒ xǐhuan kǒngbù piān.)
Once more with the English translation.
你喜欢什么类型的电影? (Nǐ xǐhuan shénme lèixíng de diànyǐng?)
“What kind of movies do you like?”
我喜欢恐怖片。 (Wǒ xǐhuan kǒngbù piān.)
“I like horror.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “What kind of movies do you like?”
That's:
你喜欢什么类型的电影? (Nǐ xǐhuan shénme lèixíng de diànyǐng?)
Listen to it again:
你喜欢什么类型的电影?, 你喜欢什么类型的电影? (Nǐ xǐhuan shénme lèixíng de diànyǐng?, Nǐ xǐhuan shénme lèixíng de diànyǐng?)
This Chinese sentence translates as "You like what kind of movies?" But it means "What kind of movies do you like?"
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
我喜欢[type of movie]。 (Wǒ xǐhuan [type of movie].)
“I like [type of movie].”
For example:
“I like horror.”
我喜欢恐怖片。, 我喜欢恐怖片。 (Wǒ xǐhuan kǒngbù piān., Wǒ xǐhuan kǒngbù piān.)
