| 你的生日是什么时候？ (Nǐ de shēngrì shì shénme shíhou?) |
| 三月四日。 (Sān yuè sì rì.) |
| Once more with the English translation. |
| 你的生日是什么时候？ (Nǐ de shēngrì shì shénme shíhou?) |
| “When is your birthday?” |
| 三月四日。 (Sān yuè sì rì.) |
| “It's on March 4th.” |
| First of all you'll need to learn how to say "When is [event]?" |
| The pattern is: |
| [event]是什么时候？ ([event] shì shénme shíhou?) |
| This Chinese sentence translates as "[event] is when?" But it means “When is [event]?”. |
| For example: |
| 你的生日是什么时候？, 你的生日是什么时候？ (Nǐ de shēngrì shì shénme shíhou?, Nǐ de shēngrì shì shénme shíhou?) |
| Now, how do you answer this question? |
| 三月四日。 (Sān yuè sì rì.) |
| Listen to it again: |
| 三月四日。, 三月四日。 (Sān yuè sì rì., Sān yuè sì rì.) |
| This Chinese sentence literally translates as "Three month four day." But it means "It's on March 4th.". |
