Lesson Transcript

Hi everyone! I'm Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We've found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you'll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you'll learn conversational phrases to use when apologizing to someone. After watching this video, you'll be able to apologize and say what you're apologizing for.
Now, let's take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
对不起我迟到了。 (Duìbùqǐ wǒ chídào le.)
没关系。 (Méiguānxi.)
Once more with the English translation.
对不起我迟到了。 (Duìbùqǐ wǒ chídào le.)
“I'm sorry for being late.”
没关系。 (Méiguānxi.)
“Don't worry about it.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say "I'm sorry for [reason]."
The pattern is:
对不起我[reason]了。 (Duìbùqǐ wǒ [reason] le.)
This Chinese sentence literally translates as "Sorry I [reason]." But it means "I'm sorry for [reason].".
For example:
"I'm sorry for being late."
对不起我迟到了。, 对不起我迟到了。 (Duìbùqǐ wǒ chídào le., Duìbùqǐ wǒ chídào le.)
Now, how do you respond that it's okay?
没关系。 (Méiguānxi.)
"Don't worry about it."
Listen to it again:
没关系。, 没关系。 (Méiguānxi., Méiguānxi.)
This Chinese sentence translates as "No matter." But it means "Don't worry about it."
