Topic 1: How to Introduce yourself

 

Sentence from the lesson:

'你好，我叫马艳茹。'
 Nǐ hǎo, wǒ jiào Mǎ Yànrú .
"Hi, I'm Yanru Ma."


  2. You say 你好 nǐ hǎo which means "hello."
  3. Then, say 我叫 wǒ jiào, which means "I'm called."
  4. After this, say your name. 你好，我叫马艳茹。nǐ hǎo, wǒ jiào Mǎ Yànrú.

 


For Example:

'中文学生'
Zhōngwén xuésheng
"Chinese student"


Topic 2: How to How to say you are a Chinese language student


Sentence from the lesson:

'我是中文学生'
 wǒ shì Zhōngwén xuésheng
"I am a Chinese student."

 

  1. Start with the word for  我 wǒ meaning "I."
  2. Then add 是 shì. This means "is."
  3. Say 中文 Zhōngwén, the word for the Chinese language.
  4. You say 学生 xuésheng. This means "student."

 

Language Tip!

When men introduce themselves, it's very common for them to shake hands. In business situations, women will do this too. In social or casual situations however, it is common for women to simply nod or smile in order to show friendliness.

In this series, we’re going to learn basic Chinese expressions. It’s super easy and it only takes three minutes!
In this lesson, you’re going to learn how to introduce yourself in Chinese.
Ready? Let's get started!
Nǐ hǎo, wǒ jiào Chén. Hi, I’m Chen.
[slowly] Nǐ hǎo, wǒ jiào Chén.
Start by saying: nǐ hǎo which means “hello” (slowly) “nǐ hǎo.” Then, say “wǒ jiào,” which means “I’m called.” (slowly.) wǒ jiào. After this, say your name. Nǐ hǎo, wǒ jiào Chén. Yes, it’s just that easy.
When you introduce yourself, you might want to tell people a little more than your name. Again, it’s easy!
You’re learning Chinese, so let’s say you want to tell people you’re a Chinese student.
In Chinese, this is: Zhōngwén xuésheng.
The first word, Zhōngwén, is the word for the Chinese language. (slow) Zhōngwén . Next we have xuésheng. This means student. (slow) xuésheng. All together, it’s
Zhōngwén xuésheng
Now, if you want to say, I am a student, just start with the word for “I” we learned before. wǒ. Then add shì. This means “is” (slow) shì. shì.
After this add the word for student. Do you remember it?
Zhōngwén xuésheng
Put them all together, and you have
wǒ shì Zhōngwén xuésheng
Remember, start by saying hello, then say your name:
Nǐ hǎo, wǒ jiào Chén.
Follow with a little bit about you:
wǒ shì Zhōngwén xuésheng
And now you have a nice self introduction:
Nǐ hǎo, wǒ jiào Chén. Wǒ shì Zhōngwén xuésheng.
