Do you know how to talk about making and discussing plans in Chinese? |
Welcome to Three Step Chinese Practice by ChineseClass101.com. In this lesson, you'll practice how to talk about your plans — who you'll be with, where you'll go, and what you'll do — all in Chinese. |
Let's look at the main dialogue. |
Two people are having a conversation. |
晚上,我还要跟几个朋友在酒吧喝酒。你要不要也一起来?(Wǎnshàng, wǒ hái yào gēn jǐ gè péngyǒu zài jiǔbā hējiǔ. Nǐ yào bù yào yě yīqǐ lái?) |
"In the evening, I'm also going to drink with a few friends at a bar. Do you want to come too?" |
好的,我要去。(Hǎo de, wǒ yào qù.) |
"Okay, I'll go." |
In this dialogue, we learned a very useful pattern for talking about where and with whom an action takes place. |
This pattern — [Subject] + 要 + 跟 + [Companions] + 在 + [Location] + [Verb Phrase] — lets you express what you are going to do, with whom, and where. |
The verb 要 (yào) means "want to," when talking about plans, it translates into "going to," 跟 (gēn) marks "with," and 在 (zài) shows the location. |
The second pattern — [Subject] + 要 + 去 + [Location] + [Verb Phrase] — is a very common way for describing everyday plans like eating, studying, or going out with friends. |
Let's practice talking about plans in this episode! |
