Yes you're right, when we type 哪儿 we type nǎér on the keyboard. nǎr is like the short form of nǎér, it is ok to write it this way in Pinyin. Other examples include 这儿 zhèr, 事儿 shìr, etc.

But when I spell nar on the keyboard, the "哪儿" does not appear.

how do you get the pronunciations?? it's really tough......
While English says 'Hello, everyone.', Chinese says '大家好 [dàjiā hǎo.]' - literally it is 'Hello to you all'.
