Chinese tourism info

Postby gillesvdp » May 21st, 2009 7:43 pm

Hey,

Does anyone know a good internet source for tourism information?
I might have a chance to drop by in Beijing later this year so I am looking for some info..

I found the China National Tourist Office: http://www.cnto.org
but it does not look great.

There is also the Lonely Planet website: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/china, but it seems limited in terms of content..

Any other hints?

Not so useful for someone visiting Beijing but I found that ShanghaiExpat.com was the best resource for everything I needed when I was living in 上海.

If you are in any big city, I would suggest using www.cityweekend.com.cn. If you are out and about in the sticks i think www.travelchinaguide.com is about as close to something reliable as you are going to get.

Tourism in China is still a fledgling industry, and as everywhere in China, quality, and reliable information is almost nonexistent outside the relative safety of Shanghai and Beijing. But there in lies the great excitement of China. Never knowing what you are going to get.

So for anyone out there who wants to start a credible China travel website... please do.
