Hi, Terry,
Food allergies = 食物过敏(shíwù guòmǐn)
So the whole sentence is:
你 有没有 (什么)食物 过敏?(Nǐ yǒu méi yǒu ( shén me ) shí wù guò mǐn? )
You have or not any food allergy?

Hi, Dong ni,

Thank you for your message.
Yes, this is a quite confusing question for all the language learners.
There is a rule that we should pronounce a little bit short and light of the second charater in AA type words
, such as 妈妈 māma , 谢谢 xièxie ….
But sometimes, we don’t follow the rule all the time. So you can hear both of them.

Hi, One of the reasons I started taking chineseclass101 is because my son, who is 6, is taking Chinese in school and this way we can practice with each other. My question is his teacher, who is Chinese, pronounces some words differently than they are pronounced when I play the recording on this site. For example xiexie (thank you) when pronounced by his teacher both the first and second xie sound the same. However, the xiexie in the recording the first xie has a long “e” sound to it. Are both pronunciations correct?

Hi, veralieke
厕所(a little bit informal) and 洗手间(formal) will be the best two choice for toilet.
Btw, go to the toilet will be 去洗手间 or 去上厕所.

If you have any further question, please let us know.
