Lesson Transcript

Hi, everyone! Welcome to ChineseClass101.com. I’m Rui. Today, we are going to talk about 10 phrases to survive at the station.
(Wǒ yào qù...) "I'd like to go to..."
The first one is - 我要去... (Wǒ yào qù...) "I'd like to go to..."
(Wǒ yào qù xuéxiào.) “I’d like to go to the school.”;
(Wǒ yào qù chēzhàn.) “I’d like to go to the station.”; (Wǒ yào qù gōngjiāo chēzhàn.) “I’d like to go to the bus station.” So you put the location after 我要去 (wǒ yào qù).
(Zhè shì qù... de zhàntái ma?) "Is this the right platform for... ?"
And you can add the destination name at the end of the sentence. The answer could be positive; 是。(Shì.). The negative would be 不是。(Bú shì.) No, it’s not the platform for your destination.
(Zuìhòu yì bān lièchē shì shénme shíhòu?) "What time is the last train?"
(Zuìhòu yì bān lièchē shì zài Wǎnshang shí diǎn.) "The last train is at 10 PM."
So when you travel in China, don’t forget to check the last train. Otherwise, you’re going to take taxi. Taxi is always more expensive, especially at nighttime.
(Qù... zài nǎlǐ huànchéng?) "Where do I change for... ? "
And your destination. (Zài xià yí ge chēzhàn kěyǐ huàn chéng qù...) "You can transfer... at the next station." For example, you can transfer at 人民广场
(Rénmín guǎngchǎng) at the next station.
(Rénmín guǎngchǎng) is a very famous station in Shanghai.
(Huǒchēzhàn zài nǎlǐ?) "Where is the train station?"
(Huǒchēzhàn zài shìzhōngxīn de běibiān.) "The train station is in the north of the city center. "
(Mǎi piào de dìfang zài nǎlǐ?) "Where can I buy a ticket?"
(Zài nàbiān hěn duō rén páiduì de dìfang.) "It's over there, where you'll see people standing in lines."
Usually, you have to stand in a line to buy a ticket especially right before the Chinese New Year because everybody has to go home to visit their family. It’s the biggest festival all over China so be careful. You have to book your ticket in advance.
(Gōngjiāo chēzhàn zài nǎlǐ?) "Where is the bus stop?"
(Wǎng qián zǒu liǎng bǎi mǐ zuǒzhuǎn jiù kěyǐ kàndào le.) "Go straight for two hundred meters, turn left, then you'll see it."
(Xià yí liàng gōngjiāochē shénme shíhòu lái?) "What time is the next bus?"
(Xià yì bānchē shí fēnzhōng hòu dào.) "The next bus is coming in 10 minutes."
In China, you do not have a timetable for what I remember. Even though they have a timetable, it’s not always on time, but I don’t usually feel disappointed. Sometimes, I even get pleasant surprises to come here earlier than expected. So don’t feel disappointed if the bus is not on time when you’re traveling in China.
(Lièchē wǎndiǎn le.) "The train's running late."
Different from buses, I do not usually have an experience that the trains coming in late so not so many surprises when you take the train in China.
(Zìdòng shòupiào jī zài nǎlǐ?) "Where are the ticket machines?"
The answer would be - 自动售票机在大厅的右侧。 (Zìdòng shòupiào jī zài dàtīng de yòu cè.) "The ticket machines are at the right side of the hall."
