INTRODUCTION
Michael: Hi everyone, and welcome back to ChineseClass101.com. This is Business Chinese for Beginners Season 1 Lesson 24 - Giving and Receiving Instructions in Chinese. Michael here.
Dehua: 大家好!(Dàjiā hǎo!) I'm Dehua.
Michael: In this lesson, you’ll learn how to follow instructions. The conversation takes place at an office.
Dehua: It's between Monica and Tom.
Michael: The speakers are boss and employee, therefore, they will speak formal Chinese. Okay, let's listen to the conversation.
DIALOGUE
王芳: 拿这个去人力资源部门,他们会给你一张门卡和健身卡。
(Wáng Fāng: Ná zhège qù rénlì zīyuán bùmén, tāmen huì gěi nǐ yī zhāng mén kǎ hé jiànshēn kǎ.)
汤诚: 知道了!
(Tāng Chéng: Zhīdào le!)
王芳: 回来后,请准备下礼拜的预约计划,然后传给我和Linda。

Dehua: Positions are very defined in Chinese companies.

KEY VOCAB AND PHRASES
Michael: Let's have a closer look at the usage of some of the words and phrases from this lesson. The first phrase is...
Dehua: 他下礼拜五回来。(Tā xià lǐbài wǔ huílái.)
Michael: meaning "He will be back next Friday."
Michael: Let’s break this phrase down.
Dehua: First is 他(tā), which means “he.” Next is 下礼拜五(xià lǐbài wǔ).
Michael: That is next Friday. The final part means “come back, return.”
Dehua: 回来(huílái).
Michael: You can use this pattern to say that someone will be back soon, too.
Dehua: Yes. You would use 一会儿(yīhuǐr). 她一会儿回来 (Tā yīhuǐr huílái.)
Michael: “She’ll be back in a bit.” Can you give us an example using this phrase?
Dehua: Sure. For example, you can say... 他下个礼拜五回来之后会回复你。(Tā xià gè lǐbài wǔ huílái zhīhòu huì huífù nǐ.)
Michael: ...which means "He will be back next Friday, then he'll get back to you."
Michael: Okay, what's the next word?
Dehua: 预约计划(yùyuē jìhuá)
Michael: meaning "appointment schedule"
Michael: This is our final phrase for this lesson.
Dehua: First is 预约 (yùyuē)
Michael: “appointment.” The final part means “schedule, part.”
Dehua: 计划 (jìhuá).
Michael: You can also talk about other types of schedules.
Dehua: For example, 旅行计划 (lǚxíng jìhuà)
Michael: “travel schedule.” Can you give us an example using this phrase?
Dehua: Sure. For example, you can say... 准备预约计划(zhǔnbèi yùyuē jìhuà)
Michael: ... which means "to prepare the appointment schedule"
Michael: Okay, now onto the lesson focus.

Lesson focus

Michael: In this lesson, you'll learn about giving instructions.
Michael: We’re going to look at a way of giving very direct instructions. This isn’t difficult grammar, thankfully!
Dehua: This is very simple!
Michael: But it is still polite. What is the basic pattern?
Dehua: 请 (Qǐng) followed by a verb phrase.
Michael: Sometimes, you might need something additional in the middle, such as a pronoun. Let’s hear some examples.
Dehua: 请坐这里。(Qǐng zuò zhèlǐ.)
Michael: “Please sit here.”
Dehua: 请关门。(Qǐng guānmén.)
Michael: “Please close the door.”
Dehua: 请打印三份。(Qǐng dǎyìn sān fèn.)
Michael: “Make three copies, please.”
Dehua: 请你准备开会的文件。(Qǐng nǐ zhǔnbèi kāihuì de wénjiàn.)
Michael: “Please prepare the documents for the meeting.” Dehua, how can we reply to these requests?
Dehua: With phrases such as 没问题。(Méi wèntí.)
Michael: “Not a problem.”
Dehua: 好。(Hǎo.)
Michael: “Sure.”
Dehua: 知道!(Zhīdào!)
Michael: “Absolutely.”
Dehua: 好,我马上开始。(Hǎo, wǒ mǎshàng kāishǐ.)
Michael: “Okay, I’ll start right now.”
Dehua: 还有其他吗?(Hái yǒu qítā ma?)
Michael: “Is there anything else?”
Dehua: 对不起,我没时间。(Duìbùqǐ, wǒ méi shíjiān.)
Michael: “I’m sorry but I don’t have time (to work on that).”
