大家好,我是李殷如。 |
"Hi everyone! I'm Yinru Li." |
In this lesson, you'll learn how to greet someone at different times of the day. |
This is Lin Li, the Lee family's Chinese teacher. |
Her schedule for the day is: |
Mark Lee at 9:00 a.m. |
Karen Lee at 12:00 p.m. |
Ben Lee at 6:00 p.m. |
Listen to the greeting exchange between the three pairs. Pay attention to the time of day. |
李老师,早上好。 (Lǐ lǎoshī, zǎoshang hǎo.) |
早上好。 (Zǎoshang hǎo.) |
你好,李老师。 (Nǐ hǎo, Lǐ lǎoshī.) |
你好,凯伦。 (Nǐ hǎo, Kǎilún.) |
晚上好,李老师。 (Wǎnshàng hǎo, Lǐ lǎoshī.) |
晚上好,本。 (Wǎnshàng hǎo, Běn.) |
Once more with the English translation. |
李老师,早上好。 (Lǐ lǎoshī, zǎoshang hǎo.) |
"Ms. Li, good morning." |
早上好。 (Zǎoshang hǎo.) |
"Good morning." |
你好,李老师。 (Nǐ hǎo, Lǐ lǎoshī.) |
"Hello, Ms. Li." |
你好,凯伦。(Nǐ hǎo, Kǎilún.) |
"Hello, Karen." |
晚上好,李老师。 (Wǎnshàng hǎo, Lǐ lǎoshī.) |
"Good evening, Ms. Li." |
晚上好,本。 (Wǎnshàng hǎo, Běn.) |
"Good evening, Ben." |

HideCan you use basic greetings in Chinese?
Hi TAING MENG LONG,
Thank you for your comment!
You're right that 老师 means "teacher," but in English, we usually don't translate it literally in this context. Saying "Teacher Li" sounds a bit unnatural—" Ms. Li" is more commonly used when addressing a teacher in English. 😊

老师 is Teacher. So : 李老师 is Teacher Li, not Ms. Li ☺️ ~~~

I am enjoying the lesson so far. I wonder if my Mandarin name is worth looking into. Perhaps you could give it to me. I am currently in a relationship with a Chinese woman and am trying to learn Mandarin for her. This course along with an interactive pinyin listing, is really helping me to get into learning the language.
Hi Lyna,
Thank you for the lovely message! Based on the meanings of your names:
Hidayate (guidance) could be 海岱 (Hǎidài), meaning "sea and mountains" for guidance and strength.
Lyna (little palm in paradise) could be 丽娜 (Lìnà), meaning "beautiful and graceful."
Your Chinese name could be 海岱丽娜 (Hǎidài Lìnà), combining both meanings.
Wishing you a wonderful day!

Hi Yara!
Your name "Yara" can be translated into Chinese as 雅拉 (Yǎlā). 😊雅 (Yǎ) means "elegant" and 拉 (Lā) is a phonetic translation. It's a beautiful name!
Feel free to let us know if you have any questions.
谢谢!(Xièxiè! "Thank you!")
