| Listen to the dialogue. |
| 超市在哪？ (Chāoshì zài nǎ?) |
| 在那。 (Zài nà.) |
| Once more with the English translation. |
| 超市在哪？ (Chāoshì zài nǎ?) |
| “Where is the supermarket?” |
| 在那。 (Zài nà.) |
| “It's over there.” |
| First of all you'll need to learn how to say "Where is [place]?" |
| The pattern is: |
| [place]在哪？ ([place] zài nǎ?) |
| This Chinese sentence literally translates as "[place] at where?" But it means "Where is [place]?". |
| For example: |
| "Where is the supermarket?" |
| 超市在哪？, 超市在哪？ (Chāoshì zài nǎ?, Chāoshì zài nǎ?) |
| Now, how do you answer this question? |
| 在那。 (Zài nà.) |
| "It's over there." |
| Listen to it again: |
| 在那。, 在那。 (Zài nà., Zài nà.) |
| This Chinese sentence translates as "At there." But it means "It's over there." |
