Thanks for the explanation Echo.
I'm actually familiar with the construction that you used to correct my
error. Making errors in language acquistion is a great learning tool
if the error is pointed out and corrected.
Practice makes perfect!
Hi RavinDave,
You are, in fact, correct! Very sorry and that has been fixed up now!
@hicor101,
Shen2me shi2hou4 is usually used in the questions and before a verb. Such as Ni3 shen2me shi2hou4 qu4? (When do you go?)
De shi2hou4 is usually used after a verb and at the end of the first clause. Such as Wo3 chi1fan4 de shi2hou4, ta1 lai2 le. (When I was eating, he came)

@蓝大卫,
Your sentences are great ! Just one thing, 这儿 不多人坐地铁 >> 这儿坐地铁的人不多 zher4 zuo4 di4tie3 de ren2 bu4 duo1.
巴士 and 公共汽车 are the same. 巴士 is translated from the sound of the English word bus. People in the north of China like to use 公共汽车 more. In the recent years, more and more people(esp. in Beijing) like to use another word -- 公交车 gong1jiao1che1 which is an abbreviation of public transport bus :) You can use either one you like.

@gradientblue,
Most of these measure words are correct, although we say 一辆自行车yi2 liang4 zi4xing2che1 and 一辆雪橇 yi2 liang4 xue3qiao1 (雪橇 is the word for skis) :grin:
The sentence of I go to work by car is 我开车去工作 wo3 kai1che1 qu4 gong1zuo4. Kai1che1 is to drive the car. You can easily make sentences with this basic structure. Such as 我骑车去上学 wo3 qi2che1 qu4 shang4xue2 (I go to school by bike). Usually when we say 骑车, we mean "ride a bike". No need to put measure words in these sentences too.

grammar:
the difference and where to position 'when' shenmeshihou / deshihou
in a sentence. some examples would be appreciated.
我住在Silicon Valley. 我不坐地铁或者公共汽车因为不方便。
我总是开汽车。这儿 不多人坐地铁。
“巴士” 和 "公共汽车" 有什么不一样?我的汉语书用“公共汽车”, 不用“巴士”。
我认为“巴士”是个同原词tóngyuáncí (cognate), 对吗?
如果我的意思不清楚或者我写得不对, 请告诉我。(请先用中文,而后 用英语。)
谢谢!
